New Cathedral Cemetery was established in 1869 when the original Cathedral Cemetery reached capacity.  One of the first steps in the relocation was to move the graves and headstones that were interred from 1770-1816 at St. Peter’s Kirkyard, and from 1816-1869 at Cathedral Cemetery.

Many of these older stones, some going back 230 years, have deteriorated dramatically with the passage of time.  After so many generations we no longer have next of kin to look after the monuments.   Donations will go toward stabilizing the monuments, and older sections of the cemetery.  All gifts are tax deductible.
