About New Cathedral Cemetery

The New Cathedral Cemetery is comprised of 125 acres of rolling hills and beautiful monuments spanning from the 1770’s to current times. It is looked after by a dedicated staff of workers, some of whom have been here since the 1970’s. Our Historian, a 38 year veteran of the cemetery and now a volunteer, is happy to help with the research of old records.

The cemetery is the final resting place of more Hall of Fame baseball players than any other cemetery in the United States.  John Steadman, well known Baltimore newspaper columnist and sports writer is also buried here.  Governors, mayors, civil war figures and members of the family of Francis Scott Key are among the many historical figures you will find at New  Cathedral.  The grave site of Mother Mary Lange, founder of the Oblate Sisters of Divine Providence and champion of the education of black youth can be found at a lovely spot in the cemetery.
